Custom Home in Charlestown, RI
Set back in a quiet wooded landscape, this home was built around material, form, and precision. Completed in 2017 in collaboration with architect Soheil Tavakoli, the goal was clear - create a house that feels connected to its surroundings, while pushing craftsmanship to the forefront. Every space was designed with intention, and every detail executed to match. Wood is the defining element throughout. Each room carries its own identity through carefully selected hardwoods, giving the home a layered, natural richness that evolves as you move through it. At the heart of the home, a handcrafted wood and plaster dome anchors the main living space. This wasn’t just a design feature, it was the focal point everything was built around. The ceiling unfolds in a precise radial pattern, each facet cut and placed to create a geometric form that draws the eye upward. A skylight at its peak brings in natural light, shifting across the surfaces throughout the day and giving the structure a sense of movement and life. It’s a moment that defines the house and a reflection of the level of detail carried through the entire build. The master bedroom is wrapped wall-to-wall in hardwoods, creating a space that feels both grounded and refined. Transitions between rooms are intentional, with each area offering a different tone, texture, and character. Outside, the geometry continues. A custom courtyard and pool create a structured contrast to the surrounding woods, tying architecture and landscape together in a way that feels both controlled and natural. Projects like this demand more than good design, they require precision in the field. Complex geometry, tight tolerances, and continuous material transitions meant every phase had to be executed with care. From framing through finish, the focus remained the same: get it right, down to the smallest detail.
